Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that Nigerians will not re-elect him in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Abuja, Sowore said the current administration has worsened living conditions across the country, insisting that Tinubu would end his tenure after just one term.
“If he were to come back, I am assuring Nigerians, he will not come back. He is a one-term president,” Sowore stated, while addressing journalists and supporters.
He accused the president of implementing policies that have deepened economic hardship, claiming that Nigerians are struggling to cope with rising costs of living and declining purchasing power.
Since assuming office in 2023, Tinubu’s government has introduced major economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates. While the administration maintains that these measures are necessary to stabilise the economy, critics argue they have led to inflation, higher transportation costs, and increased poverty levels.
Sowore’s comments reflect growing public frustration, as many Nigerians continue to grapple with the impact of these reforms on everyday life, including access to food, healthcare, and education.
Beyond the economy, he also pointed to worsening insecurity across several regions of the country, citing persistent cases of banditry, kidnappings, and insurgent attacks.
Across parts of northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt, communities continue to face security challenges, forcing some farmers to abandon their lands and contributing to food shortages and rising prices.
Despite assurances from government and security agencies, concerns remain among citizens over safety and the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to address the crisis.
Sowore’s remarks add to the intensifying political discourse ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition voices continue to challenge the direction of the current administration.
