Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the current Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, is set to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) this Tuesday, sources familiar with the matter told Chronicles Reporters.
According to the sources, Jimoh is expected to be promoted and decorated on the same day. He is reportedly lobbying to remain in Lagos to lead the Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos Island. Zone 2 oversees law enforcement, policing operations, and crime prevention across Lagos State and parts of Ogun State.
Chronicles Reporters also learned that Tijani Fatai, currently Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, has been penciled in as a likely replacement for Jimoh in Lagos. Fatai is said to enjoy the support of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“Moshood Jimoh is set to be promoted on Tuesday. Meanwhile, he is lobbying to head Zone 2 in Lagos,” a top police source said. “Mr Tijani Fatai has been penciled down for Lagos, supported by the governor. They will be promoted and decorated on the same day,” the source added.
The promotion follows a scheduled examination and interactive session for senior officers seeking elevation to AIG, set to take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Police Service Commission (PSC) corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. Officers invited for the exercise are required to report by 7:00 a.m. for briefing and conveyance to the venue, with the session starting at 8:00 a.m.
The PSC communicated a strict dress code for the session, requiring conventional attire, black jackets, berets, and swagger canes. Officers are also expected to demonstrate professional competence across law, local acts, and professional studies. Operational support includes 12 armed officers from the Mobile Force (MOPOL) and two Hilux vans for transport.
The promotions come amid a broader shake-up in the force, following the recent retirement of several Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) and the elevation of seven AIGs to DIGs to strengthen police leadership. The newly promoted officers include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The move reflects ongoing efforts by Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to reorganise the force’s leadership structure and enhance operational efficiency nationwide.
