Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is chairing the All Progressives Congress (APC) national campaign council for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, has pledged to secure a comprehensive victory for the party in the capital’s polls scheduled for February 21, 2026.
Speaking at an APC event in Abuja, AbdulRazaq said his mission “is to deliver the FCT for the APC and I will,” signalling a robust political push in the face of stiff competition. At the inauguration of the APC’s 138-member FCT Campaign Council, party leaders outlined a grassroots strategy aimed at claiming all six area councils in the FCT.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, emphasised intensive door-to-door mobilisation and youth-led outreach as critical components of the party’s campaign ahead of voting day. Kalu said the push includes engaging diverse communities across Abuja, pointing out that the FCT is home to people from all geopolitical zones in Nigeria. AbdulRazaq’s political commitment comes as Kwara State continues to grapple with serious security challenges, including deadly terrorist attacks in rural communities that have forced military deployments and humanitarian responses.
Observers note a contrast between his focus on FCT electoral success and the urgent needs in his home state, where residents have faced mass abductions and violent assaults attributed to extremist elements. Supporters of the APC view the FCT elections as both a test of the party’s organisational strength and a stepping stone for broader national ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
AbdulRazaq’s leadership of the campaign council, supported by governors from multiple states, reflects the party’s determination to consolidate its influence in Nigeria’s capital territory and beyond.
