Gunmen have reportedly abducted four people, including a nurse on duty, during an attack on a maternity and health centre in Makeke community, Ososo Zone of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at about 8:00 p.m., throwing the rural community into fear and uncertainty.
A resident of the area said the armed men stormed the Makeke Maternity/Health Centre and forcefully took away the nurse and three other individuals whose identities were yet to be confirmed. According to the source, the victims were whisked away to an unknown destination, leaving community members shocked and helpless.
The resident lamented the worsening security situation in the area, noting that locals feel vulnerable and abandoned. “The people are worried because there is little or no security here. We don’t know what will happen next,” the source said.
Akoko-Edo, which shares boundaries with Kogi and Ondo states, has increasingly become exposed to kidnapping due to its porous borders and difficult terrain, often exploited by criminals. Efforts to get an official response from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the police spokesperson were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
