Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi has been arrested in connection with an alleged coup plot aimed at forcibly removing President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to reports by Politics Nigeria. Amandi, a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in Enugu State, was reportedly taken into custody in September 2025 alongside several military officers implicated in the case.
Sources familiar with the investigation said Amandi was allegedly recruited to serve as a propagandist for the plot, which reportedly involved plans to assassinate senior government officials. The alleged targets included President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. This is the first public disclosure linking the actor to the alleged conspiracy.
The Defence Headquarters on Monday confirmed that investigations into the plot to unlawfully overthrow the government had been concluded and forwarded to the appropriate authorities. According to the military, the inquiry followed established procedures and found that some officers acted in ways inconsistent with the ethical standards of the Armed Forces. Those implicated are expected to face military judicial panels, while civilians connected to the case will be tried in regular courts.
Amandi, who has featured prominently in Nollywood as an actor, director, and production manager, is known for works such as The Album, Tiger King, Cornerstone, and Once Upon a Dream. His last activity on social media was recorded on September 19, 2025, shortly before his reported arrest. The case has continued to attract national attention as authorities prepare to commence prosecutions.
