The Nigeria Police Force has demoted a female officer, Anemena Favour, from the rank of sergeant to corporal over alleged misconduct linked to the misuse of social media. The decision followed an internal disciplinary process which found that the officer violated established police regulations on online conduct and disobeyed lawful instructions.
The action was triggered after a video surfaced online showing Anemena conducting a live TikTok broadcast while dressed in full police uniform. Police authorities viewed the act as a breach of the Force’s social media policy, which restricts officers from engaging in certain online activities that could bring the institution into disrepute.
Sources disclosed that the case was reviewed through an orderly-room proceeding and later upheld by the Department of Finance and Administration at Force Headquarters, Abuja. Anemena, who was attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 25 in Asaba, Delta State, was found guilty under provisions of Police Regulation 370, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2020, which governs officers’ conduct both online and offline.
Following the ruling, the police directed that all official records, including the IPPIS and nominal roll, be updated to reflect her new rank. The Commander of SPU Base 25 was also instructed to ensure the immediate implementation of the demotion, which authorities say is intended to serve as a warning to other officers on adherence to professional standards, especially in the use of social media.
