The senator lauded efforts by the EFCC to apprehend and prosecute Bello over the alleged fraud committed while in office as governor.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central senatorial district, has urged former Governor Yahaya Bello to honor an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged N80.2 billion fraud during his tenure. She applauded the EFCC’s efforts to pursue Bello over the alleged fraud and praised the Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, for ceding 14 properties initially forfeited to the Nigerian Government to Enugu State.
However, she stressed the importance of the EFCC investigating other corrupt public officials to avoid the perception of a witch-hunt against Bello. She expressed surprise at Bello’s excuse for not attending the EFCC’s invitation, citing alleged media intimidation orchestrated by a senator.
Reacting to this, Natasha reminded Bello of the importance of respecting Nigeria’s laws and constitution, given his former position as the chief security officer of Kogi. She advised him to honor the invitation, emphasizing that no one is above the law and appreciating the EFCC’s diligence in handling the case. She concluded that seeing the case through to the end is crucial for gaining trust in the fight against corruption.
