About 40 policemen assigned to provide security and investigation support to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission have been withdrawn by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. This action comes amid ongoing investigations of multi-billion naira corruption allegations against the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje. The order for the withdrawal was issued by the IGP to the State Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel on Thursday.

A text message sent to the affected policemen instructed them to report back to Command headquarters immediately. Some of these officers have been assisting the commission’s anti-corruption investigations and providing security to the commission’s headquarters and other seized properties under investigation.

This move has raised concerns about the vulnerability of the commission, especially as it actively investigates corruption allegations involving the national chairman of the APC. There’s a sentiment that the police’s withdrawal of security is ironic, given the beefed-up security around Ganduje, which seemingly aims to prevent the commission from making arrests.
