Two police officers were killed and another injured on Saturday after a patrol team was ambushed in Sabon Sara Village, Bauchi State, in yet another grim chapter of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.
The incident was confirmed by police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who said the officers were on a visibility patrol involving operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Police Mobile Force, and the State Intelligence Department when the attack occurred.
“In keeping with our mandate of protecting Nigerians… the team came under attack, leading to the loss of two police officers and injury to one other,” Hundeyin said in a statement on Saturday. He added that an intensive manhunt has been launched to track down the perpetrators.
The Bauchi ambush adds to a troubling surge in violent attacks across the country. Just last week, terrorists abducted more than 335 schoolchildren in separate incidents across schools in Kebbi and Niger states, further intensifying public outrage and fear.
As security agencies struggle to contain escalating threats—from terrorists to bandits and other armed groups—the killing of the officers underscores the persistent dangers confronting both civilians and frontline personnel nationwide.
