An Islamic cleric in Ilorin, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, has been arrested for allegedly murdering Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, for ritual purposes.

Reports indicate that Ballo lured Yetunde after connecting with her on Facebook and obtaining her phone number. The tragic incident reportedly took place on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Hafsoh was said to be attending a naming ceremony when she received a call from a friend. She stepped away to answer it, leaving her food behind, and then vanished without a trace.

When family members and friends couldn’t find her, they reported her missing at the Oja Oba Police Station in Ilorin the following day.

Suspect Arrested Through Phone Records

Investigators traced Hafsoh’s last call, leading them to Ballo’s residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin. His family home, however, is in Isalekoto.

Initially, Ballo denied having any connection to her disappearance. But during a search of his residence, the police made a horrifying discovery—Yetunde’s dismembered body was found in a bowl, alongside tools suspected to have been used in the act.

Ballo claimed she had suffered an asthma attack while visiting him, but the evidence at the scene, including a table equipped with dismemberment tools, suggested otherwise. Authorities believe this may not be his first crime.

Suspect’s Background and Police Investigation

Ballo is reportedly the son of a late prominent Islamic cleric from Isalekoto. He is currently being held at the Kwara State Police Headquarters, where investigations are ongoing.

Attempts by Chronicles Reporters to reach the Kwara State Police spokesperson were unsuccessful, as her phone remained unreachable and messages sent to her line had not been answered.
