The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that no fewer than 25 schoolgirls were abducted in the early hours of Monday when terrorists stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
The attackers, described as heavily armed bandits, invaded the school around 4:00 a.m., engaging police officers on duty in a fierce gun duel before scaling the perimeter fence and whisking the students away from their hostel.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the assault left one staff member, identified as Hassan Makuku, dead, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot wounds to his right hand.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Muhammad Sani, immediately deployed additional police tactical teams to the area. They are working alongside military units and vigilante groups to track the terrorists across suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in an intensive search-and-rescue operation.
Sani appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them that security forces are committed to rescuing the abducted girls and restoring safety across Kebbi State.
As earlier reported by SaharaReporters, the terrorists stormed the school compound while students were preparing for morning routines, firing sporadically and plunging the community into chaos. A school guard was also injured during the assault, which some local sources placed at around 5:52 a.m.
Residents say the attackers have not travelled far and are calling on both federal and state authorities to take urgent, decisive action to ensure the swift rescue of the abducted students.
