Nigerian TikTok personality Olumide Ogunsanwo, known online as Seaking, has been released from police custody in Abuja, just days after being rearrested on charges of cyberbullying.
Seaking was apprehended last Thursday at the Lagos State court, where he was involved in legal proceedings. Following his arrest, he was transferred to Abuja for further questioning.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm Seakingâs release on Monday. According to Sowore, the police had originally set a bail condition requiring a Level 10 or 12 civil servant to act as a surety, which was immediately rejected.
A new arrangement was made, and Seaking was granted release on administrative bail, with Sowore himself stepping in as the guarantor.
Sowore shared the news, saying, âWe are happy to announce that Olumide Ogunsanwo @seaking303 has been freed from Nigeria Police Force custody, following our swift rejection of the original bail condition that demanded a Level 12 or 10 civil servant. This led to a quick agreement and release on administrative bail, with me as the guarantor.â
He also expressed gratitude to several individuals, including Inibehe Effiong, Adeyanju Deji, Tope Temokun, and Marshal D. F. Abubakar, as well as the community of citizens who continue to stand against oppression.
In a prior report by Chronicles reporters, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), had also called for Seakingâs release after his rearrest at the court. During a church service on February 7, Pastor Adeboye distanced himself from the incident, noting that Seaking’s comments had angered certain individuals who then took matters into their own hands.
Pastor Adeboye further urged the police to release the TikTok influencer, commenting, “Seaking is fulfilling prophecy.”
Seakingâs arrest, originally linked to allegations of cyberbullying, drew public attention. However, Pastor Adeboye made it clear that he had no role in the arrest. He stated, âI was told someone criticized me harshly. What is my crime? Because I asked my followers to fast for 100 days? I only asked my children to fast. It was Godâs will that it happened. I heard some people got upset and decided to arrest him. Please release him. He is fulfilling prophecy.â
