The Edo State Government has suspended Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, along with the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani.

This decision was made public on Thursday morning in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor. In an official statement, Ikhilor cited allegations of serious financial and official misconduct as the reason behind their suspension.

According to the statement, the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place while investigations are conducted. “For the awareness of the general public, Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the immediate suspension of the Chairman of the Edo Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, and the Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, due to allegations of grave official and financial infractions,” Ikhilor stated.

The governor has also ordered the establishment of an investigative panel to examine the accusations and provide necessary recommendations. “The suspension of Osagie and Lawani is essential to allow for a transparent and thorough investigation into the financial misconduct allegations brought against them,” the SSG added.

This development comes less than three months after the duo was appointed to their respective positions.
