Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, for declaring him wanted in connection with the recent Lagos Anti-Demolition Protest.
In the suit, Sowore is demanding ₦500 million in damages, describing the police action as unlawful, defamatory, and a gross violation of his fundamental rights to free expression and peaceful assembly.
Sowore’s legal team insists that the “wanted” declaration is an act of intimidation aimed at silencing legitimate civic dissent and shielding state-backed demolition activities from public scrutiny.
