Human rights advocate, Omoyele Sowore, has made it clear that he will continue his fight for Nigeria’s freedom from corrupt leadership, despite efforts to intimidate him. This statement came after the Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail on Thursday.

Following the court’s decision, Sowore expressed his gratitude to his supporters, acknowledging their unwavering commitment throughout his legal battles. He also reassured them that, even though the police have seized his passport, his resolve remains unshaken.

The court, presided over by Justice Musa Suleiman Liman, set Sowore’s bail at N10 million with one surety of equal value. In addition, the court ordered that Sowore deposit his passport and submit an affidavit of means.

Sowore responded to the police’s interest in his passport by asserting that it would not silence him. He likened the prosecution led by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to an abuse of authority, promising his supporters that he would never back down from the fight.

“We are determined to free this country from the grip of the incompetent leaders who are holding it hostage,” Sowore declared. He emphasized that his mission is not tied to upcoming elections, but is instead rooted in a deep conviction to improve the welfare of the people.

“We’re not opportunistic activists like some of those who only became involved when elections were around the corner. We’ve been fighting for justice long before now, and we’ll continue to do so, regardless of election schedules. This is not about timing; it’s about principle,” he added.

Addressing the issue of his passport, Sowore stated, “They can take away my passport, but they can’t take away my voice, they can’t silence me, and they cannot make me disappear. That is not possible.”

Sowore assured his supporters that, despite the efforts of those in power to suppress him, he will remain steadfast in his commitment. Reflecting on his past encounters with the government, Sowore recalled his 2019 treason charges by then-President Buhari, promising that the former leader would eventually be “disgraced” out of office. “Though Buhari completed his term, he is now a shadow of himself, chasing after fame and money,” Sowore stated.

He continued, “The same fate awaits all those who have destroyed this country. They will never enjoy peaceful retirements. The same applies to the current government officials.”
