Two men were rescued on Saturday after falling into a diesel reservoir during an industrial accident in the Ikosi Oregun area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the morning hours, and both victims sustained severe injuries. Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the development in a statement.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA received a distress call at 10:37 a.m. through the state’s 767/112 Emergency Toll-Free Lines. By 10:47 a.m., the agency’s Tiger Response Team had arrived at the scene to commence rescue efforts.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims accidentally fell into the diesel reservoir while performing his duties. A second worker, in an attempt to rescue the first, also fell into the tank,” the statement read.
Emergency responders, including personnel from LASEMA and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), provided first aid at the scene. The assistance included CPR before the victims were rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
Teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also joined LASAMBUS to secure the area and conduct a detailed assessment to prevent future occurrences of similar incidents.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu assured the public of LASEMA’s dedication to swift emergency response and public safety. He added that further updates on the victims’ recovery and preventive measures would be shared as investigations continue.
