Nigerian activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has lodged a petition with the Office of the Attorney General of Florida, accusing former Rivers State governor and current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, of laundering public money to acquire real estate in the United States.

Sowore disclosed that he formally reached out to the office of Florida’s Attorney General, James Uthmeier, alerting the authorities to what he described as “first-class felonies” involving the transfer of illicit funds into the American property market.

According to him, three residential properties in Winter Springs, Florida, were directly traced to Wike. The activist alleged that the assets were deliberately concealed under the name of Wike’s wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal.

He further stated that the properties were shared among Wike’s children in a bid to present them as legitimate family assets while covering up their alleged unlawful origins. Sowore added that investigations were still ongoing and hinted that more hidden properties could surface as inquiries deepen.

The activist, who is known for his uncompromising stance against corruption, described the discovery as another clear example of how Nigerian leaders divert public wealth and move it abroad. He stressed that laundering illicit funds across borders violates not only Nigerian laws but also U.S. criminal statutes that treat such actions as serious felonies with heavy penalties.

Sowore remarked that this was not an isolated case, noting that Nigerian politicians have long been implicated in funneling stolen resources into foreign properties. He vowed to pursue the matter until accountability is enforced.

As a former presidential candidate and a vocal advocate for democracy, Sowore himself has faced several arrests, prosecutions, and restrictions over his relentless campaigns against misrule and systemic corruption. Despite these obstacles, he has consistently led investigations and exposed what he calls the “grand looting” of Nigeria by its ruling elites.

Speaking further, the activist said: “It turns out that international thief Nyesom Wike has three different properties in Winter Springs, Florida. All of them were hidden under his wife’s name, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, and distributed to his children. There may be even more properties, but we are making progress. We have already contacted the Office of the Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, to inform them that Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS – laundered stolen funds (proceeds of crime) to purchase and traffic properties in their state, which are first-class felonies.”

Earlier, Chronicles Reporters had reported that Wike, Nigeria’s FCT Minister, admitted he recently travelled abroad for what he called a “holiday,” insisting it was his first break since assuming office.

At a public event on Thursday, the minister dismissed reports claiming he was hospitalised, describing them as “lies” circulated on social media. Wike said he intentionally left official files behind during his trip, stressing that leaders must also create time to rest.

In his remarks, Wike also threw jabs at critics, particularly Omoyele Sowore, who has been vocal against President Bola Tinubu. He stated that Sowore was “lucky” to be dealing with Tinubu, whom he described as a tolerant leader, warning that under another president, such criticisms might have attracted dire consequences.

Responding, Sowore argued that Wike ought to be facing trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague instead of holding public office if Nigeria were functioning properly.

The face-off comes as the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly intensified actions against Sowore over his social media activities. The move sparked legal resistance from the activist, who in turn filed a lawsuit challenging the DSS’s directives. He also sought court orders to prevent social media platforms from deleting his posts, maintaining that the security agency’s actions infringe on his constitutional right to freedom of expression.
