The Plateau Youth Council (PYC) of Chakfem Chiefdom has condemned in strong terms the latest attack on its community, describing it as “nothing short of genocide” and a deliberate attempt to exterminate its people.
In a statement signed by Deputy PYC Chairman, Joshua Gabriel Goholput, on behalf of Chairman Ephraim Prep, the council expressed grief over the incident, which it said has once again thrown the entire chiefdom into mourning following the loss of lives, destruction of homes, and displacement of families.
“The incident, which led to the tragic loss of lives and the destruction of homes and property, is not just an isolated crime but part of a pattern that increasingly bears the mark of genocide against our people. This barbaric act is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing pattern aimed at exterminating our people,” the statement read.
The youth council condemned the assault in “the strongest possible terms,” stressing that no grievance can justify the systematic killing of innocent people.
“Each life lost represents a shattered dream, a broken family, and a scar on the conscience of our nation. Beyond the physical destruction, such coordinated and repeated attacks sow seeds of fear and division, threatening the peace and unity we have worked so hard to preserve,” the statement continued.
The council expressed solidarity with grieving families, saying their pain is shared by the entire chiefdom.
“Every life lost is a wound to our land, and every destroyed home is an assault on our collective future. Their pain is our pain, and their grief is shared by the entire Chakfem Chiefdom. We urge them to remain steadfast in faith, knowing that justice will one day prevail.”
Calling for urgent action, the PYC demanded that security agencies move swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators, warning that failure to do so would only embolden more bloodshed.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime which constitutes nothing short of genocide against defenseless communities must not go unpunished. Anything short of justice will only embolden further bloodshed. Justice is not optional; it is a necessity for peace to reign.”
The council further urged government at all levels to live up to their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property by beefing up security in vulnerable communities while also providing immediate relief for survivors.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and justice, the Plateau Youth Council vowed not to remain silent.
“As a people, we must strengthen our unity, uphold peace, and continue to demand justice through every peaceful means. The Plateau Youth Council of Chakfem Chiefdom reaffirms its commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of our people. We will not keep silent in the face of genocide, and we will not rest until lasting peace is restored.”
