The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the redeployment of several Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), including DCP Adegboyega Oyeleye, from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, Kwara State, to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Chronicles Reporters gathered that DCP Oyeleye’s transfer is connected to the death of a suspect, identified as Mr. Jimoh Abdulquadri, who allegedly died as a result of torture inflicted by police officers under his command.

In December, it was reported that Abdulquadri died in custody at the Kwara State Police Command. Family members accused the police of torturing him and later claiming he had committed suicide, a claim they refuted by pointing out that the cell ceiling was too low for such an act.

According to a police signal obtained by Chronicles Reporters, DCP Oyeleye has been transferred to the Investment Department of Logistics and Supplies at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A reliable source confirmed that the transfer was directly linked to Abdulquadri’s death. The source also alleged that the same officer had previously been implicated in a case involving an N8 million bribe.

The police signal, dated January 13, 2025, read:
“POSTING SENIOR OFFICERS: THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE HAS ORDERED THE POSTING OF THE FOLLOWING DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE… DECOMPOL EMMANUEL ADEGBOYEGA OYELEYE FROM DC SCID KWS TO DC INVESTMENT DLS FHQ ABJ. POSTING IS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.”

It was earlier reported that Abdulquadri was arrested for allegedly obtaining N220,000 under false pretenses. The Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Abdulquadri’s death is ongoing.
