Five Nigerian soldiers have tragically lost their lives during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The confrontation was part of a coordinated operation led by the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade under Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, the operation targeted the Lakurawa terrorists and resulted in the neutralization of at least six insurgents.
The military recovered four AK-47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a box of 12.7mm ammunition from the scene. However, the success came at a steep price as five brave soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“Despite the operation’s achievements, it is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the loss of these gallant soldiers,” the statement read.
The military also called on residents of Gudu LGA and surrounding areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten the peace and security of their communities. Public cooperation, the statement emphasized, is critical to maintaining safety and supporting ongoing security efforts.
