The Nigerian Police Force has arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Ogaga Dickson, described as a notorious armed robber and member of a dangerous syndicate operating in Delta State. Ogaga is accused of being involved in the killing of CSP Hassan Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, during a gunfight on October 14, 2024.
CSP Jega was reportedly leading a team of officers in an operation targeting the criminal gang when the fatal incident occurred.
At a press briefing held on Monday at the Police Headquarters, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed that four members of the syndicate were neutralized during the earlier confrontation. According to him, several items were recovered from the suspects, including an AK-47 rifle, an English pistol, a locally fabricated firearm, multiple rounds of ammunition, and six luxury vehicles.
“On November 1, 2024, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department and the Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) arrested Ogaga Dickson, 35, a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of CSP Hassan Jega,” Adejobi stated. “The DPO was killed during a fierce gun battle between the police team led by him and the assailants. This occurred after the officers had successfully thwarted one of the gang’s robbery operations.”
Adejobi further explained that prior to Ogaga’s arrest, police operatives had stormed the gang’s hideout and engaged them in a heated exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of four gang members.
He added, “Following Ogaga’s arrest, we recovered one AK-47 rifle, one English pistol, one locally made pistol, various calibres of ammunition, and six exotic vehicles.”
