Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and head of the Ugandan military, has issued a chilling threat to opposition leader Bobi Wine, warning he would behead him. Kainerugaba, who is widely seen as the potential successor to his father, is no stranger to controversial statements, often using social media to make provocative remarks.

In 2022, he stirred up public outrage by suggesting he would invade Kenya, though he later claimed the comments were made in jest and issued an apology.

On Sunday evening, Kainerugaba took to X (formerly Twitter), posting a threatening message directed at Bobi Wine. He stated that the only person preventing him from taking action against the opposition leader was his father. “Kabobi knows the only person protecting him from me is my father. If Mzee was not there, I would cut off his head today!” Kainerugaba wrote.

Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, responded on the same platform, expressing his concern over the threat. “The threat by Museveni’s son (who also heads Uganda’s military) to behead me is not something I take lightly, given that many have been killed by him and his father, and considering their several attempts at my life. I refuse to be intimidated by the cowardly regime. The world is watching,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, Kainerugaba responded sarcastically, “Finally! I woke you up? Before I behead you, repay us the money we loaned you.”

Bobi Wine, a popular musician-turned-politician, has long been a vocal critic of the Museveni regime. He has accused the government of engaging in election manipulation, including ballot stuffing and intimidation, during the 2021 presidential election. His allegations have been supported by human rights groups, who have condemned the government for human rights violations, including torture and arbitrary detention. The government, however, denies these accusations.

The 2021 election was marred by numerous irregularities, including an internet shutdown and a social media blockade just before the vote.
