The Elegant Nurses Forum unequivocally condemns the sustained threats to life, intimidation, and unjust treatment meted out to Nurse Rufus Mojisola, a courageous whistleblower whose only “offence” was standing for professional ethics, patient safety, and truth.
We are deeply alarmed by the illegal and punitive transfer of Nurse Rufus Mojisola to an unsafe facility plagued by terrorist activities, a move that clearly endangered her life and amounts to institutional victimization. This was followed by a violent attack by thugs, widely suspected to be sponsored by the local government, and a shameful campaign of intimidation that culminated in coercion into an unwilling resignation after direct threats were issued to her father by government officials. These actions constitute grave violations of her fundamental human rights and professional dignity.
The Elegant Nurses Forum also condemns the hypocritical and complicit stance of the Kwara State Chairman of NANNM, whose posture, despite credible suspicions and reports of threats, has failed to protect a vulnerable member. This silence and inaction cannot be overlooked and suggest a troubling level of compromise within the state leadership, allegedly driven by threats to the lives of executives.
It is increasingly obvious that the Kwara State Government is indirectly involved in aiding and abetting criminal acts, fostering a climate of fear, intimidation, and oppression. These actions not only violate human rights but also worsen morbidity and mortality rates by undermining the safety, morale, and ethical independence of Nurses and Midwives who are critical to healthcare delivery.
Our Demands
The Elegant Nurses Forum hereby demands the following with immediate effect:
1. Immediate invalidation of the resignation letter of Nurse Rufus Mojisola, which was obtained under duress and coercion following threats by Kwara State Government officials.
2. Full payment of all outstanding salaries, allowances, and arrears owed to her without delay.
3. Guaranteed and credible security of lives and property for all Nurses and Midwives in Kwara State, including protection for whistleblowers.
4. Immediate reversal of all illegal, punitive, and unsafe postings, and proper placement of Nurses and Midwives in accordance with professional standards and safety considerations.
5. Independent investigation into the attack by thugs, threats to her family, and the role of local government and state actors, with perpetrators brought to justice.
6. Immediate intervention by the National Secretariat of NANNM, as there is clear evidence of compromise and failure at the state level.
7. An end to all forms of intimidation, harassment, and victimization of Nurses who speak out against wrongdoing.
8. Formal public assurance by the Kwara State Government guaranteeing non-retaliation against Nurse Rufus Mojisola and all healthcare workers.
9. Institutional reforms to protect whistleblowers within the health sector in Kwara State.
Notice of Escalation
If these demands are not fully met within seventy-two (72) hours of this statement, the Elegant Nurses Forum will have no hesitation in escalating this matter to relevant national and international bodies, including but not limited to the International Council of Nurses (ICN), the United Nations, and the United States Embassy, as well as other diplomatic missions and international human rights organizations.
We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with Nurse Rufus Mojisola and all Nurses facing oppression for standing on the side of truth. An injury to one Nurse is an injury to all. We will continue to resist intimidation and demand justice, accountability, and safety for healthcare workers and the patients they serve.
