The campaign media team of Kasim Mohammed, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Gwagwalada Area Council, has dismissed as false and mischievous a circulating claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that their candidate was “settled” with ₦5 million to withdraw from the forthcoming council election.

In a strongly worded statement released by Mohammed Isa Hassan on behalf of the Kasim Media Team, the group described the allegation as “cheap propaganda and political consolation” by the APC camp, which, according to them, has run out of ideas and credible campaign messages.

“Now they are consoling themselves with a fake story, claiming ₦5 million was used to ‘settle’ Kasim Mohammed to withdraw from the race in favour of the APC imposed candidate,” the statement read. “Let it be clear, Kasim Mohammed is not for sale.”

The statement further portrayed Kasim Mohammed as a man of integrity, service, and principle — not a “political businessman” willing to trade his ambition for money.

“₦5 million is too small to buy a man who has dedicated himself to service, not self-enrichment. Kasim has sacrificed heavily for this campaign — he spent over ₦8 million to purchase the PDP nomination form, ₦5 million to delegates, and over ₦30 million on campaign logistics, banners, and community outreach,” Hassan explained.

The media team questioned the logic behind the APC’s claim, noting that it made “no sense” for someone who had invested tens of millions in his campaign to suddenly quit for a mere ₦5 million.

“Only a confused camp would believe such a lazy story,” the statement added.

The team advised the APC to focus on selling its own candidate and issues, rather than resorting to propaganda and misinformation.

“APC should focus on their campaign, sell their candidate — if they have one — or better still, find somewhere to relax and watch how real politics is played,” the statement concluded.

The Kasim Mohammed campaign reiterated that the PDP candidate remains fully in the race and confident of victory.

“The good people of Gwagwalada have made up their minds already. Kasim Mohammed is in this race to win, and by the special grace of God, he will win,” the team declared.

The Gwagwalada Area Council election, which has continued to generate political tension and controversy, is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests in the FCT.
