We are children of the people, and for decades, we have played politics in Gwagwalada with dedication and loyalty.
In every election, we have seen true leaders bringing their children to the field, sharing in the heat and dust of the struggle, but this year tells a different story.
The question about the children of the APC candidate has been lingering, they are no where to be found, while the children of the poor are posting and campaigning tirelessly, his own remains far away, living in comfort abroad according to a report, we are not hidden behind privilege, we live and breathe the reality of ordinary citizens.
Now, the crucial question is on the lips of every Gwagwalada resident, where are the children of the APC candidate who wants to lead us?
During campaigns, we have seen the children of Zad, Abu Giri, Obama, and even Kasim Mohammed actively engaging with the people, mingling and sharing in our daily lives.
But the same cannot be said of the APC candidate’s family, their absence speaks volumes while others struggle for their father to lead, can we truly entrust the destiny of Gwagwalada to a man whose family neither lives among us nor understands our everyday struggles? You see leadership, in it truest form, it begins at home.
It is built on presence, not posters, on connection, not slogans, when a leader’s own children are based abroad, completely detached from the reality of his people, it raises a serious moral question: how can such a person genuinely represent the pains and hope of the people?
Let it be clear, we are not condemning success or education abroad, but leadership requires commitment.
If your family cannot stay with you during the campaign, will they stay with you after victory? If your children cannot walk out streets, drink our water, or face our challenges, how will you ever understand what we go through?
And more importantly, will the resources of Gwagwalada be safe in such hands? We, the good people of Gwagwalada, are not ashamed of our struggles.
We live them daily, and they have become the foundation of our strength and resilience, what we are tired of is being governed by people who see leadership as a title, not a responsibility, if you truly want our votes, show us that you belong here, not there.
Let your family be seen among us, let your children know what it means to be part of Gwagwalada, not through campaign speeches, but through lived experience, leadership is not about hiding your family while asking for people’s trust, it is about standing shoulder to shoulder with those you hope to lead, the truth is, a distant home produces a distant heart.
Oh yes, we are the children of other people, we live here, we struggle here, and when the time comes to decide our future, we will choose those who are truly with us, because leadership that begins abroad often ends in betrayal.
But leadership that begins at home, among the people, builds trust, loyalty and lasting progress, Gwagwalada deserves.
