A female police officer attached to the Ogidi Division in Kwara State has been found dead, barely 24 hours after she was reportedly kidnapped by unidentified assailants.
The deceased officer, identified as a Woman Inspector (W/INSPR) and known for her role as a prosecutor at the Ogidi Police Division, was abducted on Thursday and later discovered lifeless on Friday morning in the Oloje area of Ilorin, the state capital.
Police sources who confirmed the development to Chronicles Reporters described the incident as both shocking and deeply distressing. “Her body was found dumped in a bush in Oloje. It’s a huge loss to the command,” one officer, who asked not to be named, said.
While the exact circumstances surrounding her abduction and killing remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, the tragic development has heightened fear and tension in Ilorin and its environs.
The killing comes amid a surge in banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks across several parts of Kwara State — a situation that has left many communities deserted and residents living in fear.
Earlier on Friday, Chronicles Reporters gathered that terror gripped Idofin Odo-Ase, a once peaceful community in Oke Ero Local Government Area, after heavily armed gunmen stormed the area Thursday night, killing at least three people.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers invaded the community around 8 p.m., shooting sporadically and breaking into homes. “They came suddenly, shooting and shouting. We ran into the bush, but three people were killed instantly,” a resident recounted.
According to sources, no security operatives responded during or immediately after the onslaught. “We didn’t see police or soldiers. The killers moved freely. Everyone is scared and leaving the community this morning,” another resident said.
In a related incident, bandits also attacked Efagi village under the Lafiagi Emirate in the Edu Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday. The assailants reportedly kidnapped a man and his wife, injuring a local vigilante in the process.
The attack, which occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., prompted a swift military response. Troops engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, successfully rescuing the kidnapped woman, though her husband remains missing.
“The Army arrived instantly and started engaging them. They rescued the woman from the bandits’ hands,” a resident told Chronicles Reporters.
The Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the killing of the female officer or the latest wave of attacks across the state.
Residents and community leaders are now calling on the state and federal governments to urgently address the deteriorating security situation before it spirals further out of control.
