JonahCapital Nigeria Limited, one of the original allottees of River Park Estate in Abuja, has distanced itself from a lawsuit reportedly filed against the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and other agencies, insisting it did not authorize such legal action.
Chronicles Reporters had earlier revealed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministerial Task Force halted ongoing construction works in River Park Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, and arrested several workers accused of flouting a subsisting court order in the long-running estate dispute.
It was also reported that an Abuja High Court had directed all parties to “maintain the status quo” and refrain from activities on the disputed plots, pending the resolution of the ownership and development tussle within the estate.
In a statement issued on Saturday, JonahCapital’s Managing Director and CEO, Kojo Ansah Mensah, clarified that the company never authorized any legal action against the FCDA, the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (Development Control), or FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
This clarification followed reports of a case before the Federal High Court in Abuja with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1869/2025, purportedly filed by lawyer Oluwabunmi Adebiyi on behalf of JonahCapital and Common Consultant Ltd, seeking an injunction against the FCDA and its agencies.
JonahCapital disclosed it has directed its counsel, S.I. Ameh, SAN, to appear in court and withdraw the suit.
The company stated: “It has come to our attention that one Mr. Oluwabunmi Sola Adebiyi (35), of BlueGate Solicitors, with enrolment number SCN089077, is not authorized by the Board of JonahCapital Nigeria Limited to act for or represent the company in any capacity. Mr. Adebiyi, who is known as a lawyer to Paulo Homes Ltd and Paul Odili, has purportedly instituted and obtained a restraining order in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1860/2025. We categorically state that JonahCapital Nigeria Limited neither instructed nor authorized him to commence any legal action on our behalf.”
The firm further emphasized: “For the avoidance of doubt, the directors of JonahCapital Nigeria Limited are Mr. Samuel Esson Jonah, Mr. Kojo Mensah Ansah, and Mr. Victor Quainoo. These names are public records. Mr. Adebiyi’s professional misconduct has already been reported to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), where proceedings are ongoing. We will also notify law enforcement agencies for further action.”
The company concluded by stressing that it has not instituted any case against Minister Nyesom Wike or the FCDA.
Chronicles Reporters gathered that last Wednesday, the ministerial task force — led by top FCTA directors and security operatives — stormed the estate, arresting workers who defied the court order, including their site supervisor.
It was further learnt that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) demolished over 30 substructures in the estate for violations of planning regulations. Authorities accused the developers of ignoring revoked lease agreements and disobeying a ministerial committee’s recommendation that undeveloped plots revert to the FCTA.
On August 8, 2025, Minister Wike inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to review the River Park Estate crisis. Headed by Barrister Salman Dako, the committee’s report — submitted last week — recommended revoking undeveloped plots due to expired lease terms and breaches of the Development Lease Agreement (DLA), citing Clause 9.2.
However, the committee clarified that holders of valid customary titles who had developed their plots in accordance with planning and development regulations should retain their rights, in line with an existing court judgment.
During Wednesday’s enforcement, the Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, explained that the demolition was triggered by intelligence reports indicating some developers were rushing to complete illegal structures despite the government’s order.
