Fresh unrest erupted on Sunday evening in Katse community, located in Paikon Kore, under Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a violent clash between farmers and herders.

Though no fatalities were recorded, residents confirmed to Chronicles Reporters that several individuals sustained severe injuries during the confrontation.

The conflict, which stemmed from disputes over grazing routes and the destruction of farmland, threw the once-peaceful community into chaos as both sides engaged in a fierce face-off.

“This is exactly what happened recently in Gurfata. People were badly wounded, even though no one died. The herders keep trespassing into farms, and when farmers resist, it always turns into violence,” a resident narrated.

In July, Chronicles Reporters documented a similar clash in Gwagwalada Area Council, where two people were killed during a bloody encounter between farmers and suspected herders.

The victims were identified as Dahiru Yakubu and Musa Yaestu, who served as the commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Gurfata.

According to eyewitnesses, that incident started after cows strayed into a farm and destroyed crops, sparking a heated confrontation between the farmers and a herder boy.

Matters reportedly worsened when the farmers launched an attack on the young herder.

“What happened was that the farmers saw cows feeding on their crops. They immediately descended on the Fulani boy and beat him mercilessly, to the point that his head was broken,” one source explained.

“The boy’s younger brother quickly ran home and alerted their elder sibling. When the elder brother arrived, he overpowered one of the farmers and hacked him to death.”

The fight soon escalated further, leading to the killing of the second victim, Yaestu, a VGN member, during the deadly confrontation.
