The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced plans to bring 23 alleged internet fraudsters before Justice D. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos State, following their arrest in a sting operation at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to the commission, the suspects will be arraigned on Friday, August 15, 2025.

They were among 93 persons apprehended by EFCC operatives during a pool party at a hotel located within the library complex. Investigators say the gathering was organised to “celebrate their achievements” in online scams.

In a statement on Thursday, the anti-graft agency disclosed that preliminary profiling revealed that most of those arrested were involved in offences such as impersonation, identity theft, and other cybercrimes.

The statement read, “Following the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters at a hotel inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, the EFCC will, on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 of them before Justice D. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“Upon profiling, almost all the suspects were found to be implicated in allegations of impersonation, identity theft, and other internet-related fraud.

“The arraignment will be carried out in batches and follows their arrest at a pool party where they were celebrating their illegal activities. The event was initially planned to hold at two other venues but was later moved to the hotel inside OOPL, apparently to avoid possible EFCC detection.

“The organisers had learnt of the commission’s intelligence efforts and relocated to OOPL, hoping the venue would shield them from arrest. The former president’s facility was not the target of the EFCC’s operation.

“The suspects were the intended targets and have since admitted to engaging in internet fraud. The arraignment of the remaining suspects will follow soon after.”
