Professor Bernard Odoh, who was recently dismissed as the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has officially withdrawn his lawsuit against the Minister of Education. The suit was aimed at preventing the minister from making any further moves to reconstitute the university’s Governing Council.
On February 7, Chronicles Reporters reported that Odoh, a former Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, had taken legal action against the Minister of Education at the Federal High Court in Abuja. His case challenged the legality of his removal as Vice-Chancellor.
According to reports, President Bola Tinubu had, on November 20, 2024, announced the dissolution of Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Governing Council. This decision also led to the dismissal of Professor Bernard Odoh as Vice-Chancellor and the removal of Registrar Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike.
In response, Odoh filed an ex-parte motion seeking a court order to prevent any further steps toward reconstituting the universityâs Governing Council until the case was heard and determined.
However, just three days after submitting his application, Odoh filed a “Notice of Discontinuance” on Monday. The withdrawal was made in accordance with Order 50 Rule 2 (1) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
Court documents obtained by Chronicles Reporters confirm that the withdrawal was made through Odohâs legal team, led by Professor Chimezie Kingsley Okorie, SAN, alongside C.E. Ibekwe, Esq., and C.O. Ikerionwu, Esq. The notice stated, “TAKE NOTICE that the plaintiffs hereby withdraw the suit against the defendants and discontinue this suit in its entirety.”
