The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed three officers for their involvement in conspiracy, abduction, and extortion of residents.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the dismissed officers are Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka. Their dismissal took effect on February 7, 2025. Following their removal from service, they were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further legal action, alongside their civilian accomplices.

The officers’ arrest took place on January 29, 2025, after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abayi apprehended them. At the time of their arrest, they were armed with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.

Investigations revealed that the dismissed officers had conspired to rent a minibus, abduct civilians along the Port Harcourt Expressway, and threaten them into paying money. They further attempted to extort additional funds from the victims’ families in exchange for their release.

The police command launched an investigation and an orderly room trial, which confirmed their involvement in these criminal activities. The statement noted that their conduct was unprofessional, against police discipline, and unbecoming of officers in the force. Consequently, the command decided to dismiss them from service.

Following their dismissal, the police recovered all official accoutrements from the officers. The statement emphasized that they are no longer members of the Nigeria Police Force.

Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism. He reiterated that the force has zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct, assuring the public that officers who engage in criminal activities will not be shielded.

He further emphasized that the Abia State Command remains dedicated to the Inspector General of Police’s vision of a professional, service-oriented, and law-abiding police force.
