Nigerian human rights advocate and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has issued a stark warning about the dangers of a society without activists.
Sowore emphasized that when activists are absent, society becomes highly susceptible to oppression and exploitation by powerful and harmful entities.
Taking to social media, he likened such a society to one trapped between a pestle and a mortar, constantly battered by malevolent forces.
He stated:
“Any society devoid of activists is a society that is unjustly placed between a pestle and a mortar, to be pummelled by all sorts of malevolent forces! #RevolutionNow.”
He further stressed that oppressive regimes work tirelessly to eliminate activists, dissenters, and individuals who challenge injustice.
His remarks serve as a call to action, urging citizens to stay vigilant and actively participate in the fight for justice and accountability.
Sowore’s #RevolutionNow movement has remained a driving force for social and political change in Nigeria.
Recently, he has been vocal about the need for reforms within the Nigerian Police Force.
Chronicles Reporters previously detailed how Sowore accused the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, of persistent attempts to orchestrate his arrest.
According to Sowore, Adejobi had made multiple efforts to have him detained, but his attempts were unsuccessful.
He explained, “Muyiwa was the one who tried to force the police to arrest me several times, but everyone refused. Eventually, they got the head of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dasuki D. Galadanchi, to summon me, and when I appeared, they arrested me.
“It was all Muyiwa’s doing, but they didn’t realize it would backfire. They had no idea they were dealing with the wrong people.”
Sowore has also accused Adejobi of exerting undue influence over his superiors within the police hierarchy.
