Remi Oseni, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in Oyo State, has sparked outrage after threatening one of his constituents, Opeyemi, over the 2027 election. Oseni, who also chairs the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has recently found himself at the center of controversy, particularly after a public disagreement with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, over Nigeria’s crumbling road infrastructure.
In a video shared with Chronicles Reporters, Oseni can be heard angrily insulting Opeyemi, saying, “It won’t be well with you.” He further disparaged Opeyemi, calling him “rude” and “useless.” The footage shows Oseni, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), speaking harshly about the 2027 elections, stating, “Someone like you, who wants to contest in 2027, will not tell me to run for House of Reps or governorship. This seat is mine, and it’s in my pocket.”
The incident reportedly occurred on December 26, 2024, during a meeting between Oseni and some of his constituents in Ibadan. A source who attended the meeting revealed further disturbing details. According to the source, Oseni not only insulted Opeyemi but also threatened to eliminate him without facing any consequences. Opeyemi had allegedly started supporting another APC member, Rt. Hon. Sunday Adepoju, for the 2027 House of Representatives race, prompting Oseni’s anger.
The source further stated that Oseni, who is also a governorship aspirant under the APC for 2027, had gone as far as to suggest that Opeyemi would “disappear without a trace.”
When contacted for comment, Oseni’s media aide, Ayodele Idowu, denied the allegations. He emphasized that Oseni would never threaten anyone, regardless of provocation. “Hon. Aderemi Oseni’s name is associated with hope, quality representation, and humanitarian service. This allegation is simply a smear campaign by political adversaries,” Idowu said.
He further suggested that if Opeyemi or Sunday Adepoju genuinely felt threatened, they should have reported the matter to the police or other authorities, rather than making it a public issue.
This incident follows a similar case in which another House of Representatives member, Alex Ikwechegh, was seen physically assaulting a Bolt driver. Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North & South Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was recorded slapping and insulting the driver after a dispute over a package of snails. He later apologized publicly for his actions.
