Terrorists, often referred to as bandits, launched a violent attack on the General Hospital in Kankara town, Katsina State, on Tuesday night. During the raid, they shot a medical doctor on duty, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, and kidnapped at least five people.
A source identified as Bakatsine shared details of the incident on his X (formerly Twitter) account, along with a photo of the injured doctor. He wrote:
“Last night, bandits attacked Kankara General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. They shot Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire and abducted five individuals from the hospital.
âThis is a clear indication of the urgent need to strengthen security in hospitals across Katsina State. Over the past three months, bandits have targeted three hospitals, including Kurfi General Hospital, Mai Tsani Hospital in Dutsin-ma LGA, and now Kankara General Hospital.â
Bakatsine further described Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire as a native of Kankara LGA and the best graduating medical student of 2019 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
It remains unclear if Dr. Dandashire survived the attack. Chronicles Reporters could not independently confirm his current condition.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to repeated calls on Wednesday morning.
