The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly criticized the state government for what it described as “corruption, embezzlement, and greed” in the 2025 budget. This condemnation was issued in a statement signed by the party’s state secretary, Wada Abdullahi.

The PRP expressed outrage over the allocation of N39.6 million for the purchase of just two motorcycles, labeling the expense as highly questionable. “It is shocking to see the Bauchi State Government allocating such an outrageous sum for two motorcycles,” the statement read. “This inflated cost raises serious concerns about the integrity of the budgetary process in the state.”

The party also flagged other budgetary items, including N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2.4 million for two printers, and N7 million for three photocopiers. According to the statement, “The budget further reveals N4.2 million for two computers, N2,450,000 for two printers, and a staggering N7 million for three photocopiers. These expenses, totaling N53.25 million, are not only grossly inflated but also highlight the corruption and greed entrenched in the PDP-led administration in Bauchi State.”

The PRP described the budget as an insult to the people of Bauchi State, many of whom are grappling with economic hardship. “This budget is a slap in the face of the citizens who struggle daily to make ends meet. It shows that the government prioritizes personal gain over addressing the pressing needs of the populace,” the statement continued.

The party also criticized the Bauchi State House of Assembly, suggesting that it either failed to scrutinize the budget thoroughly or is complicit in the alleged corruption. “We are concerned that the Assembly has not diligently reviewed the budget or, worse, that some members are colluding to divert public funds for personal gain,” the statement added.

The PRP called on the Assembly to repeal the budget entirely and replace it with a transparent, fair, and realistic financial plan. “We urge the legislature to use its powers to scrap this budget and draft a new one that truly reflects the needs of the people,” the party demanded.

Additionally, the PRP urged citizens to hold their leaders accountable. “We cannot allow our state to be looted by corrupt politicians. The people must stand together and demand a better future for themselves and the next generation,” the statement read.

The party also condemned the government for budgeting N1 billion for fueling generators and vehicles in the Government House, describing it as another example of misplaced priorities.
