Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have made significant arrests, including the capture of a suspected cop killer and the dismantling of a child-trafficking syndicate. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed in a statement on Monday that the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended 35-year-old Ogaga Dickson, a key suspect in the killing of CSP Hassan Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State.

Ogaga was arrested on November 1, 2024, weeks after CSP Jega lost his life during a gun battle between his team and armed assailants on October 14, 2024. According to Adejobi, the police had previously neutralized four members of the gang during a raid on their hideout. The statement outlined, “On November 1, 2024, operatives of the FID-IRT arrested Ogaga Dickson, a 35-year-old member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of CSP Hassan Jega, DPO of Agbarho Division. Jega was killed in a gun battle on October 14, 2024, when the police foiled a robbery operation led by the assailants. The operatives had earlier engaged the gang in a fierce gunfight, resulting in the neutralization of four gang members.”

Upon Ogaga’s arrest, the police seized a range of weapons, including one AK-47 rifle, an English pistol, a locally made pistol, various ammunition, and six exotic vehicles.

In a separate operation, police forces successfully dismantled a child-trafficking syndicate allegedly headed by Pastor Dayo Bernard, a pastor at the End Time Army Ministry in Bukuru, Plateau State. On December 2, 2024, operatives rescued five children, aged between 2 and 4 years, who had been abducted from different homes in Jos, Plateau State. Adejobi said, “Police operatives apprehended a child-trafficking syndicate led by Pastor Dayo Bernard of End Time Army Ministry in Bukuru, Plateau State. The operation led to the rescue of five children, aged between 2 and 4, who had been abducted from various homes in Jos, Plateau State, and the arrest of other members of the syndicate: Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani. Upon interrogation, the principal suspect confessed to abducting and selling 13 children at varying prices. All the children have been recovered and reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.”

Additionally, in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directive to eliminate illicit arms and ammunition, FID-IRT operatives recovered 14 AK-47 rifles during the operation.
