Troops of the 1 Brigade under Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a large cache of weapons allegedly destined for terrorist groups in Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted between January 26 and 27, was based on reliable intelligence about arms dealers operating from Niger Republic. Acting on this information, the troops initiated a covert mission to monitor and track the suspects.
Reports indicate that the suspects were intercepted along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road. However, in an attempt to avoid capture, they diverted their vehicle into the bush. After a brief exchange with the troops, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, the security forces discovered a variety of weapons and ammunition. The haul included two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.
While the suspects remain at large, efforts to apprehend them and dismantle their network are being intensified by the military and DSS.

Counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident on his verified X account, confirming the successful recovery of the arms. He also noted that security forces are actively pursuing the fleeing suspects to ensure they are brought to justice.
