The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded the immediate suspension of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), following serious allegations of sexual harassment and extortion.

A leaked audio recording allegedly captures Professor Fasina making inappropriate advances toward Engineer Folasade Adebayo, a married deputy director at the university’s Directorate of Works and Services. This revelation has sparked outrage within the student body and academic community.

In a statement signed by Akinteye Afeez Babatunde, President of the Senate, NANS Headquarters, the association strongly condemned the alleged misconduct, stating that such behavior is unacceptable for anyone holding a leadership position in an educational institution.

SSANU Backs Calls for Suspension, Questions Panel’s Neutrality

NANS has urged the FUOYE Governing Council to act swiftly and suspend Professor Fasina to allow for an impartial investigation into the allegations. According to the association, an immediate suspension is necessary to ensure the integrity of the probe and prevent any potential interference.

Beyond the sexual harassment accusations, the student body also raised concerns about alleged extortion in the university’s part-time programme. NANS claimed that students who meet the qualifications for regular admission are being unfairly denied entry and forced into part-time studies for financial exploitation.

Allegations of Power Abuse and Threat of Student Protest

Describing these actions as a blatant abuse of power, NANS insisted that such practices undermine students’ rights to quality and affordable education. The association further warned that if the Governing Council fails to act before the upcoming convocation, students across the country will be mobilized to shut down the university in protest.

According to NANS, Nigerian students will no longer remain silent in the face of injustice.

“FUOYE deserves better. Nigerian students deserve better,” the statement concluded, urging the university authorities to restore credibility in academic leadership and ensure justice prevails.
