ANigerian lady living in Egypt identified as Akinboni Regina has accused her boyfriend, Akinola Olalekan of physical assault and seizing her passport.
Chronicles Reporters learned that Olalekan and Akinboni were dating when they relocated to Cairo, Egypt for greener pastures.
A family source told chronicles Reporters that the duo had a misunderstanding last Saturday and the boyfriend, Olalekan, physically assaulted and tortured the girlfriend, Akinboni, at their place of residence in Cairo, the Egyptian capital.
The source further stated that the assault led to severe body injuries on Akinboni. A video obtained by chronicles Reporters also shows Akinboni with a deep wound on her head and blood streaming down her face following an alleged attack by her boyfriend.
The source said: âI am writing with so much tears and complete sadness from Nigeria with the reported case of abuse, stabbing and near-death occurrences experienced by One Miss Akinboni Regina from one Mr Akinola Olalekan Ifedayo.
âThis said lady has been made to face a series of abuse, torture and all other inhuman activities by this same Mr Akinola Oalekan Ifedayo. All efforts to rescue this said lady (Miss Akinboni Regina) have been faced by strict restriction by this guy and his cohorts.
âI have come to notice and I was informed that the guy has shown so much brutality in recent times to the lady before. One happened on Saturday; their neighbours over there have always been the ones rescuing her.â
âHe has remained incommunicado and all efforts to get the lady’s passport from him so that she can come back to Nigeria have failed,â the family source added.
When contacted, Olalekan admitted that he hit his girlfriend and caused the head injury. However, he told chronicles Reporters that he physically assaulted her because he was provoked.
Olalekan said the incident happened after Regina Akinboni persistently accused him of cheating on her.
He said: âIt is true I hit her and I admitted my wrong. It was a mistake. It was not intentional. The issue happened on Saturday night. She was accusing me of cheating and kept frustrating me and it was as a result of this frustration that I hit with her with a mopping stick.
âI did not stab her as claimed. It was a lie. I did not even know the mopping stick would cause that severe injury to her.â
Olalekan said he had been apologising since the incident occurred and had made drastic efforts to pay for her treatment.
âHer father took the matter to the Nigerian community in Cairo and I begged her in front of everyone there. I was even asked to pay for her treatment, a sum of 1,500 Egyptian Pounds but I instantly paid 600 Egyptian Pounds,â Olalekan said.
He continued: âThe Nigerians over there also beat me because they felt what I did was wrong. I was beaten and I sustained a lot of injuries. That is the reason why I did not even go back to balance it.â
Olalekan denied that he seized his girlfriendâs passport as claimed by her family.
He said: âThe family is lying against me. How is it even possible for me to seize her passport? I did not take it. I have also checked everywhere. And the family can let her leave Egypt by just telling her to go to the embassy. She will be allowed to fly back to Nigeria without her passport.â
Olalekan added that the Egyptian police authorities are aware of the incident.
Attempts to reach the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission for a reaction to the incident were unsuccessful.
The commission’s spokesperson, Abdulrahman Balogun, has not yet responded to a message seeking his comment.
