The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two young women, Khadijat Abdulraheem, a 24-year-old graduate, and Ayomide Morakinyo, a 20-year-old student at the University of Ilorin. They are accused of producing and distributing drug-laced cupcakes to students.
The arrests occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Tanke-University of Ilorin Road, Oke Odo, Ilorin, Kwara State. According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, NDLEAâs Director of Media and Advocacy, a search of their apartment led to the recovery of 42 pieces of drug-infused cupcakes.
Ex-Convict Arrested Again for Passport Racketeering
In a separate operation, the NDLEA arrested Sodade Sunday Eniola, an ex-convict previously jailed for drug trafficking in June 2024. Although he had been sentenced to four years in prison, he paid a fine of âŠ750,000 and was released. However, in December 2024, Eniola was rearrested by the agencyâs MMIA Strategic Command for involvement in passport racketeering.
Babafemi revealed that NDLEA operatives at Lagos Airport intercepted 52 passports from various countries, including Canada and Russia, hidden in shoe soles and food items destined for export. This led to the arrest of four syndicate members: Sodade Sunday Eniola, Ayinde Saheed Awwal, Salaudeen Afeez Ayode, and Sheriff Adebayo Bamigbade. The suspects and exhibits were handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Serviceâs Zonal Command for further investigation on December 30, 2024.
Major Seizures in Rivers and Kano
In another operation, NDLEA officers at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex in Onne, Rivers State, seized 316,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup from two containers during a joint examination with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies on December 31, 2024. This seizure was based on credible intelligence processed by the agency’s Port Harcourt Port Command.
Meanwhile, in Kano State, NDLEA operatives raided the Mafarki, Dan Dishe area of Dala Local Government on December 31, 2024. They recovered 149,090 pills of tramadol and exol-5 from a local drug dealer identified as 45-year-old Ismail Muhammad.
These operations highlight the NDLEAâs ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes across the country.
