Colonel Isaac Amponsah, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) and personal security aide to Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, collapsed during the President’s final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday.
A video shared online by Chronicles Reporters captured the moment Col. Amponsah, standing behind the President, appeared to be in discomfort. Shortly after, he collapsed, prompting President Akufo-Addo to pause his address.
Parliamentarians and security personnel swiftly responded, assisting the ADC and moving him to a nearby seat. The dramatic incident unfolded as the chamber watched in concern.
According to GhanaWeb, Colonel Amponsah has served as the President’s ADC since February 2023. He succeeded Major-General Bismark Onwona, who was reassigned as Commandant of the Training and Doctrine Command at the Ghana Armed Forces.
Before assuming his current role, Colonel Amponsah held key positions, including Chief Instructor at the Military Training Academy and a role in the Defence Intelligence Unit at the General Headquarters. His extensive experience in senior military roles preceded his promotion to the rank of Colonel.
Thankfully, it was later confirmed that Col. Amponsah regained consciousness and was escorted out of the chamber for further medical attention.
