A fire has destroyed the building housing the Cross River State High Court in Ogoja. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, severely damaging the court’s infrastructure.

Reports indicate that the fire was brought under control after prompt intervention by various security agencies and relevant authorities. However, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have yet to be confirmed by the authorities in charge.

This fire comes just months after another court building in Kwara State was gutted by flames in February 2024. The fire in Kwara was reportedly caused by a surge in electricity supply to the area.

In Kwara, the fire caused significant damage to the registry department and the litigation office of the state High Court complex, located in the GRA area of Ilorin, the state capital. The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, Hassan Adekunle.

The statement noted that firemen were alerted to the blaze through a distress call and quickly responded to contain the situation.
