The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

This decision was delivered by a three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Hamma Barka, in a judgment issued on Friday. The court ruled that its earlier judgment from November 13, 2024, which recognized Abure as the party’s national chairman, remains valid and has not been overturned by any other court.

Justice Barka delivered the ruling while addressing two separate appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In its judgment, the appellate court clarified that it did not address the leadership issues within the Labour Party, emphasizing that such matters are non-justiciable.

The court further noted that any decision made without proper jurisdiction is null and void. As a result, the Federal High Court judgment delivered on October 8, 2024, by Justice Emeka Nwite, which sought to challenge Abure’s leadership, was deemed ineffective and without legal standing.

Relying on its November 13, 2024, ruling, the appellate court reiterated that Julius Abure remains the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party.
