A Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Alexander Owoeye, has issued a warrant for the arrest of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.

The arrest order was granted on Thursday following an ex parte motion submitted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The anti-graft agency requested the warrant to compel Onyedikachukwu’s appearance in court to address allegations of fraud.

During the hearing, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, representing the EFCC, argued that the application was based on Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. She urged the court to authorize the arrest, stating that Onyedikachukwu had repeatedly evaded efforts to bring him to justice.

Buhari further informed the court that should the manager remain elusive, the EFCC would be forced to issue a public notice declaring him wanted.

Justice Owoeye approved the request and adjourned the matter to January 24, 2025, for Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment.

The EFCC’s affidavit revealed that Mercy Chinwo had filed a petition accusing her manager of financial misconduct. According to the affidavit, Onyedikachukwu allegedly diverted $345,000 in royalties from her digital platforms and events without her consent or remittance of her share.

The anti-corruption agency also disclosed that multiple attempts to apprehend the manager had been unsuccessful, prompting the court application for an arrest warrant.

The case will continue on January 24, where Onyedikachukwu is expected to face criminal charges.
