
A Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State came under heavy attack by Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, resulting in the deaths of several Nigerian soldiers and leaving many others unaccounted for.
According to security sources, the assault occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 4, 2025. The attackers reportedly razed several buildings and set military vehicles ablaze during the two-hour siege.
Heavy Casualties Reported
A source disclosed to Chronicles Reporters that, “25 Taskforce Brigade was attacked over the weekend with significant casualties. So far, over seven bodies have been recovered.” The terrorists reportedly stormed FOB Sabon Gari around 4 a.m., deploying various weapons to overpower the troops.
ISWAP’s Growing Influence
Since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been expanding its influence, particularly in areas surrounding Lake Chad. The group has reportedly bolstered its ranks with defectors from Boko Haram, intensifying its operations in the region.
Army’s Commitment to Fight Terrorism
Despite the challenges, the Nigerian Army has reiterated its resolve to eliminate terrorism in the country. Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents have been responsible for widespread violence, claiming thousands of lives and displacing millions, particularly in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.
