U.S. President Joe Biden has approved federal assistance to support California in tackling the devastating wildfires sweeping through Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.
The inferno has claimed five lives, forced over 100,000 residents to flee, and left countless homes in ruins. Among those evacuated are celebrities like Ben Affleck, James Woods, and the Kardashian family. Fueled by fierce winds, the fire has already scorched 2,900 acres—an area comparable to three football fields every minute.
“I’ve granted Governor Newsom’s request for a major disaster declaration and authorized federal aid to bolster local response efforts. This ensures that affected communities have immediate access to resources for recovery,” Biden announced via X (formerly Twitter).
Eyewitnesses described “dozens” of homes, including multi-million-dollar estates, reduced to ashes. Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide emergency as wind speeds of up to 50 mph are expected to exacerbate the crisis.
With the fire continuing its relentless advance and resources stretched thin, Los Angeles faces mounting challenges in safeguarding lives and properties.
