A businessman identified as Alhaji Adam Barau El-Duniya, his wife, and children were reportedly abducted by armed bandits in Shinkafi town, Zamfara State. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the attackers stormed El-Duniya’s residence, firing gunshots to create chaos before breaking into the house.
The attack was confirmed by Bakatsine, a journalist covering conflicts in northwest Nigeria. He explained that the bandits fired sporadically to intimidate residents before gaining access to the businessman’s home. The exact number of children taken remains unclear.
This incident comes less than 24 hours after another attack in the Gidan Gara area of Shinkafi town.
“Bandits invaded Alhaji Adam Barau El-Duniya’s residence in Shinkafi town, Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State, last night. They abducted him, his wife, and his children. This marks the second attack in two days in the town, following the incident on January 14, 2025, in Gidan Gara,” Bakatsine reported.
Shinkafi and its surrounding areas have been grappling with an increase in violent attacks, leaving residents in constant fear. Authorities have not yet issued a statement regarding the recent abductions.
When contacted, Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer Yazid Abubakar said the police were unaware of the incident but promised to investigate and provide updates.
“I’m not aware of the incident. Did it happen inside Shinkafi town? I will check with the command and get back to you,” Abubakar said.
In a related development, bandits recently kidnapped at least 46 people, including women and children, during an attack on Gana town in Zamfara State. Armed men on motorbikes stormed the community, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes and businesses on fire.
Witnesses revealed that the bandits operated unchallenged for hours, abducting their victims before retreating into the forest.
“They came in large numbers and started shooting. People fled in panic, but the bandits still managed to take many of our loved ones,” a resident recounted.
A local traditional leader, speaking anonymously, confirmed the mass abduction and expressed frustration over the absence of security in the area. He described the attack as a “devastating blow to the community.”
The incident follows a series of kidnappings in Zamfara State, further highlighting the worsening security situation in the region.
