Reports have emerged, though unconfirmed, indicating that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was scheduled to address a gathering of economists regarding the ongoing tax reform bills. As of the latest updates, police vehicles had surrounded the entrance to the Emir’s palace, effectively blocking access.

In the midst of this, a large number of thugs attempting to enter the palace were stopped by law enforcement, with gunshots ringing out as the situation escalated.

Sources suggest that the Emir may have vacated the palace, though this has not been officially confirmed. There is also speculation that the tension is linked to the Emir’s upcoming visit to Bichi, where his Chief of Staff, Munnir Sanusi, is set to assume the position of district head—a significant development, as it marks the first time the role has been filled since the dissolution of the emirate.

Kano has experienced ongoing political turmoil surrounding the emirship since Sanusi’s reinstatement in May.
