The education system in Arogbo wards II and III of Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State, is in dire straits, with many schools grappling with severe infrastructural decay and a lack of qualified staff. One of the most affected institutions is L.A. Primary School Ogidigba II, which operates with only one staff member—a headmaster who is frequently absent.

Chronicles Reporters gathered that this alarming situation was highlighted by the Social Crusade for a Sane Society, a civic group, during a recent inspection tour of schools in the region. In a statement signed by the group’s convener, Icon-James Tam, the deteriorating state of education was laid bare.

“At L.A. Primary School Ogidigba II, the infrastructure is crumbling, and the school is left to function with just a headmaster who is rarely present,” the statement revealed. The group also pointed out similar challenges at L.A. Primary School Adoloseimo II, where inadequately trained Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers struggle to uphold basic educational standards.

Statistics from the area paint a grim picture. F.A.C.M Primary School stands out as the only institution with an average of four government-employed teachers, while most others rely on a single headmaster and untrained PTA staff hired by local communities. This reliance on underqualified personnel further jeopardizes the quality of education in the region.

The Social Crusade for a Sane Society has called on the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to urgently address the crisis. They reminded the governor of his promise to recruit 2,000 teachers, stressing the need for immediate intervention to prevent the collapse of the education system.

“Our schools are failing, and the future of our children hangs in the balance. It’s imperative that decisive actions are taken to rescue the system and secure the destiny of the younger generation,” the group emphasized.

The statement continued: “Recent findings reveal that only F.A.C.M Primary School has a sufficient number of government-employed teachers, while other schools, such as L.A. Primary School Ogidigba II and Ebikiri Model School Adoloseimo II, operate under deplorable conditions. During our tour, we uncovered widespread neglect, including infrastructure in disrepair and substandard teaching practices.”

The group’s revelations underscore the urgent need for government intervention to ensure that children in Arogbo wards II and III receive quality education in a conducive learning environment.
