Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja has temporarily suspended operations following a crash-landing incident involving an Allied Air cargo plane.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 10:00 AM when the aircraft, identified by registration number 5N-JRT, skidded off Runway 22. The plane was carrying six crew members, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the crash through a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah. According to the statement, the aircraft skidded off the runway at 10:05 AM, and all five individuals on board were safely evacuated. They were promptly taken to the FAAN clinic for medical assessments.
FAAN also stated that the airport’s emergency response team and accident investigators were immediately on site to manage the situation. Efforts are underway to clear the runway, and the airport expects to resume normal operations soon.
In the statement, FAAN expressed gratitude for the cooperation and understanding of the aviation community and the public. It also urged that speculation be suspended until the preliminary report is released by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
